Building Permits and Inspections
Home improvement projects no matter how small may require a building permit. Call the Building Division at (561) 540-5780 to determine if a permit is required for the work. Permits are required for any structural, electrical or plumbing work, as well as for outside projects such as fences, utility sheds, all types of paving, etc. When permits are required, the Building Division will perform inspections for code compliance. Work started prior to a permit being issued may be subject to penalties; this would apply to both owner/builder permits and contractor permits.
If a contractor or handyman is hired to do the work, the Building Division can verify that all license and insurance requirements have been met.
Inspections must be called in by 3:00 p.m. the day before the inspection is to be performed. All requests for inspections submitted after 3:00 p.m. will be scheduled for the second business day following the request.
For your convenience, an Inspection Line (561) 540-5788 has been put in place to facilitate scheduling. When calling in an inspection, it will be necessary to provide all of the following information:
- Permit Number
- Contractor Name and Phone Number
- Property Owner Name
- Address of Inspection
- Specific Type of Inspection
- Date requested of Inspection
