Michael Bornstein is a second generation Floridian from the Jacksonville area. Prior to moving to Palm Beach County in 1988, he received a Bachelor of Science degree from the Florida State University. Michael worked for the Board of County Commissioners as the District III Administrative Assistant and also served as the Intergovernmental Relations Coordinator.
In 1998, Michael was hired by the Town of Lantana as the Development Services Director and was responsible for Building Department, Code Enforcement, Planning and redevelopment efforts. In 2000 he was asked to temporarily fill the vacant Town Manager position. After a rigorous selection process he was hired as the Town Manager where he has served ever since. His goal as manager is to insure that the Town provides open and accessible government to the citizens of Lantana.
Over the years Michael has been actively involved in the community volunteering and serving on various boards. Of note, he has served on the Solid Waste Authority Citizens Advisory Council, the City of West Palm Beach Internal Audit Committee, the County Fire Rescue Advisory Board, President of the Centennial Committee for Palm Beach County's 100th birthday in 2009, Chairman of Affordable Housing Committee and the Chairman of the Palm Beach County City Manager's Pandemic Preparedness Committee.
Michael is the father of a 17 year old daughter and is married to his lovely wife, Debra. He enjoys writing music and playing the guitar, cooking, fishing, boating, motorcycling and reading. History plays an important role in his life which is evident in his efforts to save and restore the original Palm Beach County Courthouse. Most recently he re-creates the walk of the Barefoot Mailman each year traveling barefoot along the beach from the Boynton Inlet to Miami. He is currently organizing another trip for March 2009.
