LANTANA MARINE SAFETY
| The Lantana Marine Safety Division is responsible for guarding approximately 750 feet of beach with a swimming area extending 100 yards offshore. The Division is also responsible for guarding inshore and offshore coastlines of the neighboring municipalities Manalapan and South Palm Beach. With a staff composed of 5 EMT lifeguards and over 70 years of ocean rescue experience, the Lantana Marine Safety Division is one of the smallest, full-time year-round operations in Florida. |
Accomplishments and Certifications
- In 1986 then Marine Safety Captain, Rob Caldwell was awarded the first Annual Florida Beach Patrol Chiefs Association, "Lifeguard of the Year".
- In 1993 the Marine Safety Division was awarded the first Annual Florida Beach Patrol Chiefs Association, "Beach of the Year".
- The Marine Safety Division holds the "Advanced Agency Certification" by the United Sates Lifesaving Association.
- The Division holds a permit from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection for "Marine Turtle Monitoring".

Important Beach Safety Information

Water accidents happen too quickly. The most common for reason for aquatic mishaps is a lack of safety knowledge. To ensure your day at the beach is a safe one, the Lantana lifeguards recommend the following safety tips:
- Learn how to swim
- Swim near a lifeguard
- Never swim alone
- Check with lifeguard for beach and surf conditions
- Do not rely on floatation devices such as rafts, rely on your swimming ability
- Do not swim during thunderstorms or strong winds
- If you are in trouble, call or wave for help
- Never fake actions or calls for help
- Do not dive into unknown water or shallow breaking waves
- Swim parallel to shore if you wish to swim long distances
- No glass containers on the beach
- Report hazardous conditions to lifeguards or other beach management personnel
- Supervise children closely
- Do not throw sand
- Follow the advice of the lifeguards. They are trained in beach and water safety. Respect their experience and judgement and never interfere with their work.
