Police Department > Uniform Services > Reserve Officers

In 1965, 4 residents of Lantana formed the Reserve Officer Unit to assist the department in their daily activities.  During their early years the Reserve Officers assisted answering telephone calls, dispatching police and fire units and riding with officers, however they had minimal training and did not carry weapons.  The Reserve Unit has grown and.........

Today, the candidates for Reserve Officer are required to pass polygraph, physical and psychological examinations, a background investigation
and an interview with the Chief of Police.

The Reserve Officers also must attend training including firearms, pursuit driving, first and self defense just to name a few.

The Reserve Unit members are required to work a minimum of 8 hours a month and  Reserve Officers regularly patrol with sworn officers, transport prisoners, direct traffic at parades and provide security at Town events.

If you would like more information about the Lantana Reserve Police Officer Unit contact the Training Unit at (561) 540-5719 or  mailto:reserveofficers@lantana.org.
