CHAMBERS OF COMMERCE AND TOWN PARTNER TO ROLL OUT INNOVATIVE NEW ENERGY FINANCING PROGRAM Lantana, FL – The Town of Lantana, in partnership with the Greater Lake Worth and Greater Boynton Beach Chambers of Commerce, has selected a team led by EcoCity Partners, L3C to create the “GreenBiz Energy Collaborative Program”.  This new Program will provide financing to businesses to complete energy efficiency or renewable energy projects on their buildings and facilities.  The result is that the business will lower their energy costs and local contractors will be put to work.  The Program will leverage up to $15 million in private bank financing to fund the upfront costs of the building retrofits.

The costs to create the Program are being funded with a Florida Clean Energy Grant, awarded last year, which proposal placed 1st out of 120 competitive applications statewide.  The EcoCity Partners team includes energy financing pioneer, Renewable Funding, the industry leader in these Programs throughout the country.  The team also includes the non-profit global green chamber of commerce, EcoChamber.  The team will not only create the financing program, it will also create a green business certification program that the participants can use to market the green goals they achieve.

The Program will be open to other municipal and county governments in Florida who want to opt-in and provide these benefits to their local businesses.  “We are very excited to finally roll this Program out, to help businesses save money on electricity costs and simultaneously create desperately needed jobs in the community,” said Lantana Town Manager, Michael Bornstein.  “The design of this Program as a multi-jurisdictional partnership began well over a year ago and it is really exciting to finally get to work.”

“Our goal is to be able to start offering financing within six to seven months,” said Michael Wallander, Principal with EcoCity Partners and the Program's Project Manager. “We know there is significant demand for this Program; we have already had discussions with other city and county governments who like our financing alternatives and want to join the Program.”

“The real winners in this process are the businesses,” said Heri Santiago, Chairman of the Greater Lake Worth Chamber of Commerce.  “We will be providing free workshops to educate businesses about the opportunities to ‘green up' both by saving money and doing the right thing,” said Glenn Jergensen, President & CEO of the Greater Boynton Beach Chamber of Commerce.

This Program will be the first commercially-focused financing program of its kind in the State of Florida and one of only a handful in the entire country.  It will seek to build upon the success of a similar PACE financing program for residential property owners that was established by Leon County, Florida – the Leon Energy Assistance Program (LEAP).

10/17/2011 UPDATE - E. Ocean Avenue Bridge Replacement
Palm Beach County has scheduled the bridge closure to begin on March 18, 2012, with an estimated bridge opening date of November 9, 2013.  The center span will be 21 feet in height which will reduce bridge openings by an estimated 40%.  Additionally, the design will be wider to allow for separation of pedestrians and traffic by a barrier and wider sidewalks so pedestrians and bicyclists can cross safely.  Click on the links below to see architectural renderings of the new bridge.

OUR MISSION
To preserve Lantana's small town atmosphere through responsible government and quality service
.

The Town of Lantana is a coastal community in Palm Beach County, which still retains the charm of its origins as an old Florida fishing village.  Although it is one of the smaller communities of Palm Beach County, it is noted as one of the oldest.  The first settlers came after Congress passed the Armed Occupation Act in 1842 at the end of the Seminole Wars.  One of the pioneer settlers, The Lyman family, is distinguished as the founders of the town.  M. B. Lyman brought his family to Lantana in 1888 and started several enterprises.  He established a store, Indian Trading Post, and post office in 1889.  As postmaster, Mr. Lyman named the post office as Lantana Point for the wild Lantana plant, which grew in abundance in the area.  The 'Point' was later dropped.  One of the Lyman businesses was the Lantana Fish Company where one hundred thousand-pound catches of fish were common.  In the early 1900's the gathering and marketing of oysters became the leading industry.  The Town of Lantana was incorporated in 1921 with twenty-two residents voting in the first election.  At the time of incorporation, the area of Lantana was one square mile with a population of 100 residents.  Today, the Town covers 2' sq. miles, and the year round population is 9,500 with a seasonal population of approximately 13,500.
